…on a wave of Artificial Intelligence

September 13th is traditionally celebrated as International Programmers’ Day, International Chocolate Day and A Day of positive thinking. We also organized the 3rd year of Localhost Exploration Day (LED 2019) on that day. LED is our unique company event where we explore trendy topics resulting in concepts pushing our firm forward.

The current year was on an Artificial Intelligence (AI) wave. The topic has resonated in our company for some time now and we decided to test it on our internal project ChatBot for supporting company culture, then possibilities of implementing AI into our start-up — getFarmer and a brand new app that will process data for effective control of human resources.

“If our era is the next Industrial Revolution, as many claim, AI is surely one of its driving forces.” — Fei-Fei Li

ChatBot with a working title of Mimon is an internal app which works within the Slack app and regulates process inside our company culture. We’ve been using it successfully for over a year now. It’s become like an employee that took some important tasks from 3 people in our company. LED presented its beta version of an independent web part.

getFarmer is a start-up which in terms of share-economics gathers farmers and clients interested in their products. This month, we are about to finish beta versions of mobile apps for both platforms (iOS and Android). The task was to find ways of implementing AI into the app. For this purpose we had even 2 individual teams assembled at LED. The result was that both teams came up with ideas that were 90 percent the same including automated display of product’s profile based on its picture. Further results will be announced by getFarmer team in the months to come.

DataGitMine was lead by our biggest AI enthusiast — Martin Liscinsky. His team came up with a concept of app and demoed gathering and displaying data from Redmine and GitLab. The data were processed into results that showed us how we use human resources and their work time. HR team and the Product Owner were thrilled.

LED was also the last day for our interns at IT Summer Camp. They finalized goals in a form of presentation. A final ceremony with evaluation of ITSC followed where interns were given their certificates.

The third year was again different, brought new ideas and concepts. We’re looking forward to the next one :)

The player became a creator — our Michal created his own gaming world

Some people bike or watch series in their free time. Our colleague Michal Géci, however, used that time to create his own arcade game called Ulrich. It’s about a vampire who one day receives a strange letter. After long nights of story development, drawing, programming, and composing music, he revealed more to us :)

Digital transformation in logistics and supply chain industry

Our client is one of the biggest suppliers of spare parts for transport vehicles and buses in Slovakia and the only producer of buses in our country. With more than 90k different kinds of commodities in its warehouses and growing operations every year, the point where all the stock movements in, between and out of the warehouses became particularly challenging was reached. It has had certain implications for controlling, reporting processes and in overall transparency of financial and data flows in company.
