In our IT and SW engineering world, we are (finally) becoming more and more “people-centric”. Many enterprises and corporates realised, that the most precious “assets” they have are their people. Companies invest a lot to their employees to boost their talent and innovative mind, creating competitive advantage for them. On the other hand, behaviors, emotions, mood within the teams, attitude and soft skills in general are carefully observed to retain the talent within the company. Consequently also employees are more and more interested in company’s reputation, their activities, if the company is eco-friendly, transparent etc. when joining it.
Management 3.0
Living in agile era, boosting behaviors like ownership and accountability is crucial for any (not just software) project. Detached people lacking those positive behaviors simply cannot create an effective team to deliver your project. Among many techniques and approaches to empower soft skills within individuals and teams as part of management attitude, management 3.0 seems to be complex enough though still not too complicated to implement. It is built around very simple principle – “manage the system, not each other”. With set of ever changing practices, tools and games, goal is to build mindset in the team to care for each other, give direct feedback, break down silos, create knowledge-base groups, reward when deserved etc. (more on – https://management30.com/)
Right tool for right job
As having right IDE for programmers can speed up the development process and having right tracking tool can help management and project governance, using right tool for management 3.0 activities can significantly boost up company culture. Such tool should cover giving and tracking feedbacks (not just people, but also meetings, retrospectives or even standups), giving recognitions and kudos, automating boring activities (working with task management tool, start a build etc.), giving personal notification for recurrent events (to log hours for instance) and so on. Once incorporating it into your management workflow, it can become real differentiator towards building right leadership and team behaviors.
In localhost.company we embrace this approach by implementing our own chatbot on Slack platform covering all the activities from above (and many more of course 🙂 ). If you want to find out more or to be helped with your own integration of chatbot, please check: chatbot.localhost.company
